This Adorable Custom Tiny Home Reveals Unique Features That Enhance Livability

Unlike other tiny house manufacturers, Baluchon doesn’t like to experiment with different styles and aesthetics for its compact homes. Indeed, the French manufacturer seems to have found a successful recipe that allows its creations to stand out from the plethora of models available on the market.

Most of its small-scale homes seamlessly blend modern and rustic design elements, feature an easily recognizable exterior appearance that blends red cedar siding contrasted by vibrant accents and a colored standing seam aluminum roof, and are built to people wanting to truly commune with nature. . This is also the case for the manufacturer’s latest creation, a 6-meter-long towable home called Mirasol (“Sunflower” in English).

Like all units manufactured by Baluchon, Mirasol is a custom build, and while it follows the same proven design recipe, it is specifically tailored to meet the homeowner’s unique needs and desires. As such, it has its own distinctive features, unique layout and carefully selected amenities to make the most of every square inch and, at the same time, enable residents to embrace the core values of simplicity and efficiency of life.

Built on a double-axle trailer, this home on wheels features a charming exterior that combines wood siding with green aluminum accents and a beautiful Scandinavian-style interior that, despite its compactness, incorporates more than just the basic necessities. In fact, that’s one of the things Baluchon is an expert at: transforming any meager space into a magical haven that incorporates lots of functionality while preserving an air of understated elegance. And Mirasol is the perfect example that limited square footage does not necessarily mean minimal design.

We know that every time the talented team unveils a new design, we’re in for surprises. In the case of Mirasol, a remarkable feature is the chestnut drop bar attached to the exterior of the house. This was a specific request from the client, who plans to install a terrace along the entire length of the house and thus create a pleasant space to meet up with friends. Placed at the height of a picture window, the folding table creates the perfect setup for an indoor-outdoor bar.

As for the large sliding window, in addition to letting in plenty of sunlight and delighting residents with beautiful views, it also serves as an aesthetic element that adds architectural interest to the overall design.

Another nice addition is a removable exterior pantry designed to store food in winter, eliminating the need to use the included electric refrigerator inside.

The interior of the house, finished in ash and spruce, feels surprisingly spacious and airy thanks to the abundant glazing, and the use of natural wood gives the house a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It is intelligently arranged to meet the needs of the owner, with a warm living room, a beautiful kitchen, a mezzanine bedroom and a functional bathroom.

Since small homes typically don’t have hallways or mudrooms, designers found a clever way to incorporate this feature into the open living space by adding a small shoe rack and two hooks on the wall to side of the entrance.

Mirasol’s living room is dominated by a large L-shaped sofa surrounded by glazing on three sides, making it incredibly bright. The sofa is convertible, meaning it can be transformed into a secondary bed to increase the capacity of the house to four people. An electric inertia heater and a large wall shelf for books and decorations are also part of the living room design.

Next is the open plan kitchen with plenty of cabinets and shelves for storage and various appliances that make it easy to prepare delicious meals. On one side, the oak countertop extends almost three meters (9.8 feet) in length, almost half of which is used as a dining table for two. The space is close to the living room and front door and could also serve as a breakfast or snack bar when the owner has guests over. The open layout, coupled with the large walk-through window and outdoor bar, will help transform this part of the home into an entertaining space for parties and family gatherings.

Opposite the main kitchen unit is another cabinet that adds additional counter space for meal preparation, as well as a large cabinet that enhances the home’s storage capacity.

The only private space on the ground floor is the bathroom, which is quite compact and includes a stylish full-size shower with black walls and glass doors and a dry toilet with a stainless steel bucket.

The bedroom inside Mirasol is cozy and comfortable, a typical small house sleeping space with low ceilings. However, the ceiling height is generous to make you feel comfortable, and two large windows ensure brightness and good ventilation. It houses a double bed and is accessible via a removable ladder.

Baluchon is arguably the best-known tiny house builder in France, but his designs are a source of inspiration for tiny house enthusiasts around the world. With its beautiful aesthetic, cleverly appointed interior, and exquisite details, the Mirasol is yet another lesson in effective small house design.
