X-Men: Marvel reveals which Wolverine is better than the others

The following contains major spoilers for X-Men Weapon #3, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Wolverine has always been the best at what he does, but one version of him is better than all the others. Surprisingly, they are also the newest Wolverines to call the Multiverse home.

After months of hunting the psychic entity known as Onslaught across the Multiverse, the eponymous team of X-Men Weapon No. 3 finds himself entering into an uneasy alliance with his enemy. In exchange for solving the world’s immortality problem that has befallen a reality, the heroes of Weapon X-Men are promised that their own original timeline will remain free of Onslaught’s influence. Unfortunately, making this deal means facing an army of supernatural threats, including Dracula, Selene, and even a possessed Ulysses Bloodstone. Once the dust settled, however, the Wolverines once again proved why they are the best at what they do, especially Jane Howlett.

Featured in the very first issue of X-Men Weapon, Jane Howlett is one of many versions of Wolverine that have been gathered across the Multiverse to face the threat of Onslaught. Hailing from the early 1900s on Earth-1281, Jane is the only member of the team not yet sporting an Adamantium skeleton. That being said, Jane still uses the usual claws and healing factor, not to mention some battlefield prowess that has garnered nothing but respect from her fellow Wolverines.

Alongside Jane are four other Wolverines, including those from the Age of Apocalypse, Marvel Zombies, and Earth X timelines, as well as fan favorite Old Man Logan himself. In addition to bringing this unique group of characters together for the first time, X-Men Weapon also gave readers a glimpse into each team member’s life beyond when they were last seen in their respective realities. Chief among them is Wolverine of Earth-X, whose marriage to Jean Gray collapsed shortly after his own powers were voluntarily dampened.

While the original Onslaught was a combination of the psyches of Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto, the Onslaught of X-Men Weapon is a whole new breed of the iconic villain. Instead, this assault was created from the culmination of Magneto and Jean Grey’s consciousnesses, leading to an even more dangerous version of the iconic villain. Initially, a young team of X-Men were called upon by the Phoenix Force to fight against Onslaught, but when they proved they were only capable of being a temporary solution, the Phoenix formed the Weapon X-Men in their place.

Wolverine beckons an opponent to challenge him on the cover of Wolverine (Vol. 1) #1

Wolverine

Wolverine first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #180, where he fought the Jade Giant to a standstill, before joining Marvel’s X-Men in 1975. Since then, the angry berserker with unbreakable claws has proven to be one of the most successful most popular from Marvel. The mutant hero was also the backbone of the X-Men film franchise, which ran from 2000 to 2020, and critics consider its solo film, Loganone of the best superhero films ever made.

Known as an unstoppable tank capable of powering through anything, Wolverine isn’t technically one of Marvel’s strongest heroes, but he is one of the deadliest characters on their roster. Even villains like Magneto and Juggernaut have learned to be wary of Wolverine’s claws.
